The demands of modern farming call for new solutions. Among them is FarmChief’s, new Maelstrom West 14m3 rear discharge muck spreader.

Demonstrated in New Zealand for the first time recently, near Gore, the Maelstrom has had good reviews.

Anthony Murray from FarmChief says the contractor evaluating the implement was particularly impressed by its manoeuvrability and with the sprung drawbar which makes work easier for the tractor, and the driver.

“Most importantly, it did a good spread with material from the wintering barn. The contractor also appreciated the build quality, in-cab controls for varying speed, and the sizeable mudguards that help stop mud being thrown around.”

Anthony says, increasingly, farmers use separators and the Maelstrom enables the resulting solids to be used more effectively and efficiently. Double rubber flaps at the rear of the implement also reduce the chance of spills, keeping roads and tracks pristine.

British designed and engineered, the Maelstrom West is built to high specifications, and capable of achieving a spread width of up to 12m. Made for a range of farming systems the Maelstrom deals with; muck and semi-solids, including mushroom compost, and recyclable nutrients from feed lots, feed pads, dairy shelters, and barns.

Twin rear vertical beaters operate at a powerful 400rpm from the PTO drive input of 1000 rpm. To make maintenance easier, the rear beaters are fitted with replaceable blades and feature a protected, two-piece drive line, with a slip clutch and wide-angle PTO.

A “Y” body shape, and low loading height, allows for quick and easy filling with any material handler. The Maelstrom runs with large twin 18mm bed chains, and LED lights are fitted as standard.

The implement joins the Dual West muck spreader, made by the same company, and the highly-regarded Veenhuis, Envirospread, and Storth spreader brands at FarmChief.
