Features and Benefits

Rollers have stood the test of time and have proven to be one of the best farming methods of helping achieve the ideal conditions for quality germination through optimal soil to seed contact. But now, you can sow with these farming implements too.

The RSR roller drill with air seeder is trailing with hydraulic rear wheels and has the option of hydraulic front levelling paddles. We’d recommend this for the operator who wants to do his own work or on steep hill country where it’ll cover as much of the hill face as traction will allow.

Ultimate germination is achieved by towing a further RSR roller behind and getting a roll seed roll, or towing the RSR roller seed drill behind a PTO. There’s the choice of 200 to 850ltr seed hoppers, electric or hydraulic fan and ground drive to radar operated.

The Rollmot roller seed drill with air seeder is for the serious operator wanting economy of scale and large output. From 5.3 metres up to 9.3m with a transport width of 2.5m, this cultivator gives you great results. This unit has all the features needed and then some, with hoppers up to 800lt – radar control for the top operator or a more entry-level option of 200lt manual drive.

The Rollmax roller drill is the “Big Brother” of the popular and proven Rollmot. They both deliver a fine tilth finish which is especially useful for seeding – however with bigger 620mm rings the Rollmax is more heavy duty, eliminating any thought of bulldozing, allowing a more even level finish. Rings have a 3yr warranty.

Testimonials

Graeme's View

Graeme Burnett has a 300ha milking platform and 250ha run-off on flat to rolling country at Dacre on the Southland Plains between Invercargill and Edendale. It’s fully self-contained, doing all its own cropping. Graeme can’t speak highly enough of his FarmChief Airseeder and Rollmax Roller. “The accuracy of the seeder is unbelievable so far in everything I’ve done – right down to a cupful of seed. And it’s easy to calibrate.” He uses the seeder and roller for re-grassing, to sow 45ha of kale, plantain, summer turnips and barley. “It works really well.” Graeme says the rollers’ larger rings make a better job and are easier to pull. “The paddles at the front also make it less work and save time. I can do 5ha in an hour and it’s quick to do another pass. It’s certainly cut down our working time.” “We used to do the job with two rollers and it was hard to hook them up and also to transfer between farms. Now it’s easy.” He also had high praise for FarmChief’s service. “The back-up is brilliant, and the help in setting it up.”

Graham's View

Graham Gordon has been running Flash Agri Contracting out of Central Southland since 2010, working on dairy, sheep, and deer farms.

When it comes to sowing, it’s typically grass seed, kale, swedes, and lucerne – anywhere from 1kg/ha to 30kg+.

In 2016 Graham bought a 630 Rollmax with 660ltr Airseeder, from FarmChief as he needed a wider machine. He says the service, and leveling paddles, also helped seal the deal.

“It was what we needed and at a price that was reasonable.

“It’s been an awesome piece of machinery: Solid, robust, and you get three machines in one.”

“We’ve also probably got more business because we can cover the ground quicker.”
